1893 – The Southern California Hotel Association began as a fraternal group for owners and operators to share ideas and socialize.
1910 – The Southern California Hotel Association joined the national association.
1910 – The American Hotel Association was founded to serve the needs of the lodging industry at the national level.
1919 – The Northern California Hotel Association helped start the “See America First” advertising campaign.
1970 – The Southern California Hotel Association and the California State Hotel & Motel Association joined forces to create the California Hotel & Motel Association.
1993 – CHLA’s 100th Anniversary
1995 – The California Hotel & Motel Association helped pass the California Tourism Marketing Act.
2001 – The California and national associations changed their names to the California Hotel & Lodging Association and the American Hotel & Lodging Association, as they are both known today.
2004 – The widely successful “We Welcome Service Animals” campaign was created by the California Hotel & Lodging Association Education Foundation.
2007 – CHLA and the California Association of Boutique and Breakfast Inns (CABBI) announced a merger.
2008 – CHLA and the California Association of Boutique and Breakfast Inns (CABBI) announced a merger.
2008 – CHLA received an ISHAE Award of Excellence in the Events/Fundraising category for its Innspire Conference and Tradeshow.
2010 – CHLA received an ISHAE Award of Excellence in the Events/Fundraising category for its Northern California Conference & Tradeshow.
2011 – CHLA received an ISHAE Award of Excellence in the Member Programs category for the 20th Edition of its CABBI Guide.
2014 – CHLA received an ISHAE Award of Excellence in the Communications category for its California Lodging News magazine.
2015 – CHLA received an ISHAE Awards of Excellence in the Events/Fundraising category for its Hotel Owners Conference.
2016 – CHLA received two ISHAE Awards of Excellence, one in the Communications category for its yearly Advocacy Summary and another for its Member Programs category for its emergency pocket guides.
2018 – CHLA worked closely with the President Pro Tempore of the California State Senate, Toni Atkins, on human trafficking awareness training Senate Bill 970, which was signed by the Governor.
2018 – CHLA starts to manage the Hotel Association of Los Angeles (HALA).
2019 – CHLA received an ISHA Award of Excellence in the Communications category for its Website Redesign.
2020 – CHLA received an ISHA Executive’s Circle of Excellence Award for Extensive and integrated programs addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, including: Project RoomKey, COVID-19 Resource Page, COVID-19 Hotel Plan and Clean & Safe program, among others.
2021 – CHLA starts to manage the San Diego County Hotel Association (SDCLA).
2022 – CHLA received two ISHA Awards of Excellence, one in the Member Program award category for its Save our Water campaign and another in the Government Affairs category for its Hospitality Against the LA Land Use Ballot Initiative.
2023 – CHLA’s 130th Anniversary
